One in three women will experience physical or sexual assault in their lifetime, according to the World Health Organization. Over 1.9 million women are physically assaulted each year in the USA alone. Avital Zeisler`s Weapons of Fitness gives women the tools to defend themselves-- and will get them in the best shape of their lives while they`re at it. Avital Zeisler was a ballerina in Canada when she was savagely attacked by a larger, stronger man. Having taken one introductory Krav Maga (Israeli military street-fighting & self-defense) class, she was able to successfully fight him off-- but she was shaken. For months, she lived in fear, until finally, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Zeisler moved to Israel and enrolled in the Israeli Krav Maga Association, and soon became the first international woman ever to graduate from the IKMA. But she found that Krav Maga, while a very effective street-fighting strategy, had no women-specific protocols to offer. As a woman, what should you do if your attacker is 100 pounds heavier and much stronger than you, and is slow to react to pain due to drug or alcohol consumption? Zeisler studied Krav Maga, Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo-- and found no real answers. Zeisler realized women needed a program specifically for them.
